Under the title “Graphic design will save the world right after rock and roll does — David Carson”, the workshop took place on the 15, 22 and 29 May 2018, hosted by Co.Create project partner Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) and guided by trainer Petra Černe Oven.

With a focus on Social Design, the workshop was organized around 5 working slots: Getting to know the basics: guiding principles in a co-creation process; Introducing the challenge; Coming up with solutions; Storyboard and prototyping, and Testing and setting up the next steps.

Students were encouraged to work on problems which were defined by them and that resulted in very diverse topics: more creative teaching of English language for children in primary schools; curriculum for analogue film course; helping children to overcome fear when they are hospitalized; activities for patients in waiting rooms of the health centers and hospitals; non-degradable plastic packaging; data harvesting; improvement of user experience on the public transport of the City of Ljubljana.

Projects were tackled through extensive use of tools and methods and one of the tasks involved was also writing a proposal for funding of the above projects. This proved to be a useful but a very hard task in the timeframe of the workshops.

This training is part of the Erasmus + project / key action 2 − “CO.CREATE − CO.Design education and training for creative professionals”.

More workshops are coming in June and July, working on separate design field challenges: on Co-design of the Territorial Design Ecosystem (hosted by Deusto University, Spain); on Service Design (CIKE, Slovakia); on Inclusive Design (CREARE, Austria), and on Urban Design (ECBN, the Netherlands).

In this series of national workshops, trainers are asked to implement, use, test and evaluate in their own environment what they gained and learned at the “Train the Trainer” workshop held in Linz, Austria, on the 12-14 February 2018.
