What are the best ways to support innovation in the creative industries? New technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, 3-D printing and big data can trigger innovation at all levels of the creative sectors – innovative products, services and processes, new business models or organizational culture and much more. Currently, all the players in the industry seem to be grappling with the challenge of innovation on their own. But what would things look like if there were a wider European support network for innovation – one that cut transaction costs and boosted the creative sectors to a higher, digital level?

The Innovation Summit, a small but influential gathering, will establish a core working group: a European network composed of diverse individuals and institutions, ranging from policymakers and researchers to industry players and intermediaries such as cluster organisations and trade associations.

The event will explore the best ways to provide support for tech-based innovation in the creative sectors, at both the national and European level. In addition, it will lay the ground for a high-ranking policy summit in 2018.

The Innovation Summit comprises three complementary components, which will all take place on Wednesday, 11 October, between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The ARTS+ and ecce/ECBN support this new agenda for innovation and form a unique collaboration together with other strategic partners such as New European Media (NEM)/ Madrid Audiovisual Network (MAC), Fitzcarraldo Foundation/ ArtLab, I3, the European Commission for Education and Culture, UNESCO, the Federation of European Publishers and others. This strategic partnership for Innovation in the CCI, starting at THE ARTS+ in 2017, aims to create an innovative ecosystem for the support of tech-triggered innovations, to accelerate the rate and success of innovations and to overcome specific bottlenecks for cultural creative innovations at the crossroads of culture, technology and business. THE ARTS+ Innovation Summit is a new and in itself innovative event in fostering this ecosystem – and will be followed by a series of events, f.e. the European Creative Industries Summit on November 27 2017 in Brussels
