“With its imaginative and colourful interior, Sweden’s Vittra School near Telefonplan, Stockholm demolishes the boundaries between education and leisure. (…) Running about 30 different schools in Sweden, Vittra boasts a singular teaching style that further set them apart. In 2010, they began an initiative called One to One for students from grades four and up which sees each student receive their own laptop. Every student has their own personal curriculum, teachers don’t give grades, and students are taught in groups which are adjusted to suit their achievement level. Instead of classrooms, the school has multipurpose spaces where students can work collaboratively or individually”. “Hiedanranta is being developed into a western hub of Tampere, where people can live, work and spend their leisure time. The task is challenging because housing, work, trade, and traffic are all changing at the same time. That is why it is necessary to develop future city solutions (…) The objective is a new city district that produces more than it consumes (…) The ideas that people, businesses and other communities had for developing the area were collected in various events”. CO-CREATE is a European cooperation project that will create and distribute a brand new curriculum on co-design: a set of valuable design skills that has gained increased relevance in recent years and can no longer be ignored. The curriculum will allow education institutions across Europe to provide their students with all the hands-on knowledge they will need to apply this process to their future professional practice.
